Aave Health Factor Explained
The health factor (HF) is the single most important metric for your Aave position. Here's what it means and how to read it.
What Is the Health Factor?
Your health factor measures the safety of your Aave borrowing position. It compares your collateral value (adjusted by each asset's liquidation threshold) against your total borrowed amount. A HF of 1.0 means your position is at the liquidation threshold. Above 1.0 is safe; below 1.0 means liquidation can occur at any time.
How Is It Calculated?
Health Factor = (Total Collateral × Weighted Liquidation Threshold) / Total Borrowed. For example, if you supply $10,000 of ETH (82.5% liquidation threshold) and borrow $5,000 USDC, your HF = ($10,000 × 0.825) / $5,000 = 1.65. The higher the HF, the safer your position.
Safe Ranges
HF above 1.15 is healthy. Between 1.05 and 1.15 is a caution zone. Below 1.05 is the rescue zone where Guardian can help. Below 1.0 means liquidation is imminent or already happening. Most borrowers should aim to keep HF above 1.5 for volatile collateral like ETH or WBTC.
